    2026 Tryout Information - Updated 4/1/26

    Important Dates and Information Below!

Two tryout dates are offered - pick one of the following mandatory dates

    Tuesday, May 26th 5pm-8pm

    Wednesday, May 27th 10am-1pm

Athletes that are interested in being on the team will only attend one of the tryout dates. Athletes should arrive 15 minutes early to check in and turn in their physical and a printout of their grades from this school year from home access.

All tryouts are held at The Round Rock Aquatic Center (RRAC) which is located on our campus: Cedar Ridge High School, 2801 Gattis School Rd, Round Rock, TX 78664

All students attending tryouts will need to bring a copy of their valid physical and will also need to complete the online athletic participation forms. Please use the link below to fill out the forms BEFORE tryouts.

    RRISD ONLINE PARTICIPATION FORMS

    Suggested goal skills:

    • Freestyle
    • Breaststroke
    • Backstroke
    • Butterfly
    • Treading
    • Reverse sculling
    • Head-up free
    • Swimming with the ball
    • Throwing the ball
    • Shooting the ball
    • Knowledge of how the game is played

Though the skills above will help in assessment, attainment of the skills above does not guarantee a spot on the team, nor does failing to do a skill disqualify an athlete from consideration. Other major factors that are considered will be the workout portion of tryouts and grades.

The 2026-27 team will be posted on the CRHS Water Polo Page on the following Wednesday after tryouts.

The CRHS Water Polo Team is competitive and not a program to learn how to swim or to obtain a PE Credit. All students trying out should know the four strokes. It is highly recommended that students have experience on a swim or water polo team before considering trying out. There are multiple summer league and club programs in the area that will help prepare athletes for tryouts.

Please refer to the team handbook located on this page below for additional information about the team. Some frequently asked questions:

    • Water polo is single-blocked but there is practice on the days when athletes do not have the block.
    • You must be in the athletic period to remain on the team.
    • A portion of the season will be spent lifting weights in addition to swimming for strength and conditioning.
    • The season runs from August 1st until mid-October.
    • Not all athletes are guaranteed to participate in travel tournaments due to roster number restrictions.
    • Students should choose water polo for their schedule. Students who do not make the team will have their schedules changed before the first day of school.
    • Playing time is NOT guaranteed upon making the team. Playing time is based on swimming ability, game knowledge, skill, effort, attitude, and practice attendance.

Being a member of an athletic team for CRHS is a privilege and not a right. All team members are expected to uphold all team and school rules, demonstrate a good attitude, strong work ethic, and treat teammates and coaches with respect at all times. Any student who is considered detrimental to the PROGRAM will be dismissed from the team.

If you have a conflict with the tryout dates you must contact Coach Gettys by May 15th to be considered for a makeup tryout date.

Please email Coach Gettys with any questions.
